About Rasta

Research for Social Transformation and Advancement (RASTA) is Pakistan’s largest research network dedicated to advancing the social sciences. Its mission is to foster a strong, locally grounded research culture by connecting academic institutions and think tanks across the country, with the goal of producing high-quality, evidence-based research that directly informs and strengthens public policymaking.

Guided by five core objectives, RASTA seeks to:

Build a sustainable network of intellectual communities focused on locally driven, policy-relevant research;
Provide a dynamic platform for knowledge generation and exchange, enabling stakeholders to present and discuss evidence-based research;
Reassess and align national policy priorities with empirical insights;
Support improved policy formulation and implementation by engaging universities, research institutions, policymakers, practitioners, and other key actors.

RASTA is committed to nurturing indigenous knowledge production and reinforcing Pakistan’s local research ecosystem. By producing impactful outputs in critical policy areas, the program supports evidence-informed governance and contributes to the Government of Pakistan’s long-term development vision.
